Autumn Colors

A 2023 post on transitions.

Hello! I hope your autumn has been everything you want it to be. This past week has been full on with the Covered Bridge Festival and weaning lambs, so this week, we’re reminiscing on last year’s October post about fall colors and calves in the hay ring. We have updated Farm Shop to keep it current. Don’t miss its special artistic treat. 😊

The autumn colors have been stunning this year. Even on gray days, the maples’ burnt orange and the walnuts’ bright yellows lit up the country roads.

The crops are nearly all harvested, and leaves swirl in front of the truck as I drive to the farm for chores. The first frost is nearing, and November is only a few days away.

The light of these trees in the sun I shall keep in my mind all winter long.

Thanks for Reading!

And I hope you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead with this moment preserved in picture and prose. Consider:

  • What light will you keep in your winter?

This Week on the Farm

We’re preparing for the first frost, which could happen Monday night. One thing we’ll do is pull the water wagon out of commission so that the IBC container doesn’t freeze (it’s been a great tool this summer for supplying cool, refreshing water for the sheep and llamas).

The calves sneak into the hay rings to bounce around in the forage and then stand in a line-up when they’re caught by the camera.
