Warm Sweaters

Sheep and goat in new straww

The Shropshire ewes are a couple of weeks away from lambing, so Friday was Shearing Day. Shearing before lambing time makes it easier to see the ewes’ udders to judge how close they are to giving birth. The lambs also have an easier time finding the udder.

After shearing, I bedded the ewes and pygmy doe (who also is close to kidding) with fresh straw. They’ll stay warm and cozy.

Once all the movement and excitement were over, I felt the winter chill. I pulled on my Shetland sweater, instantly engulfed by a warm hug and uplifted.

Wool for the win!
