The Light in the Winter
On colorful skies.

Athos, Stella, and Hank enjoy breakfast in the sunrise.
Chore time in the winter hits at just the right time for catching brilliant sunrises and golden rays.
When feeding the sheep, sunlight creeps across clouds, turning blues and grays into pinks and yellows. As the morning progresses, Golden Hour gleams across the driveway, making the trees glow.
Accompanied by low humidity and cool temperatures, the light in the winter seems clearer and crisper than in other seasons. The stars seem more brilliant, too. Maybe, too, it’s the contrast between the light and the starkness of the landscape, especially when there’s no snow.
Despite the low temperatures and short days, there is still amazing light in the winter.

Shadows across the farm driveway.

This Week on the Farm
The animals have been keeping warm with lots of hay for energy and fallen trees for shelter. Mocha was comfortable with her puffy fur on Friday:

Mocha, comfy under a tree branch, which kept the hay underneath snow-free.
I’ll be preparing this week for the American Sheep Industry Association Annual Convention. I’ll be representing Indiana in Reno at the end of this month. Lambing is scheduled for the beginning of February, and I want to make sure we have all the equipment and pens ready in case they go early, which would happen, incidentally, while I’m at a sheep meeting.

We’re continuing to sort fleeces for you, and we also have a Shetland ram available for his next home. He’s a 3/21/24 son of a North American International Livestock Exposition class winner. Great disposition. Reply to this email for more photos and info.

A two-year-old with a great disposition, this ram is ready for a new home.
