The Hillside Pasture

On favorite farm views.

The Hillside Pasture holds some of my favorite views on the farm. From one ridge, I can look out over the Creekside Field and see the cows grazing half a mile away. At the back gate, I can see the sheep, goats, and llamas gathered around the hay feeders near the barn, enjoying their breakfast.

This photo shows another one of my favorite scenes. From the bottom of the hill, I can look upwards and see a blue canvas with beautiful patterns.

The pasture may appear stark and empty at first, but the brown grass is resting after working hard all summer, feeding our livestock. The snow is much-needed moisture in a landscape hit by drought. Wintry clouds are welcome when remembering mid-July’s intensity.

Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day farm chores. But we try to take a step back, see the beauty of the farm around us, and find the wonderful views in each day.

Thanks for Reading!

And I hope you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead with this moment preserved in picture and prose. Consider:

This Week on the Farm

On New Year’s Day, we shared our Christmas tree with the SGL. Consuming the fir’s needles provides nutritional and medicinal benefits. Here’s a video of the sheep, goats, and llamas fascinated by the tree:

They wasted no time reducing it to a nothing but a nub. (Jeff: Not enough left to photograph…)

Yesterday, Jeff brought apple peels and cores for the llamas. Skittles seems to be eyeing the apple core and trying to decide whether or not he wants it (Jeff: He’s chomped them right down in the past…).
