Sun on the Hillside

On this time of year.

The sheep in the Hillside Pasture are warmed by the day’s first sun. On this particular morning early this month, frost accompanied the sunrise. The ewes were cozy in their woolen sweaters.

It’s a nice time to walk in nature, with leafless trees and clear woods floors. We’re nearing the time when the grass will again grow green and the Hillside Pasture will look much different than it does now.

This Week on the Farm

This is a time for waiting: waiting for the Shetland ewes to begin lambing, waiting for fertilizer for the Christmas trees to arrive, waiting for the Shropshire lambs to grow for weaning time.

Of course, there is always something to do in the meantime. Cleaning current pens, preparing new pens, and taking inventory of supplies are things I’ve been doing throughout lambing season, and those activities continue.
