Summer's Arrival
On the heat wave that hit the Midwest.
Writer’s Note: We’ll be pausing Sylvan Sundays for the month of July to visit with family and enjoy county fairs. You’ll receive our newsletter up to June 30, and then, we’ll see you in August!
The summer solstice has come and gone, and leading up to the seasons’ change were heat indices above 100 and nighttime temperatures above 70, which can stress livestock.
Each day this past week, early in the morning, I saw vehicles parked at the creek pictured above. Their drivers took walks along the water, preparing for the heat of the day.
It was so hot, even the wildlife seemed to hide away. Sometimes, herons appear in this creek, but I didn’t see any this past week.
Our sheep, goats, and llamas lived a quiet existence, and we kept things low-key, retreating into the cool of the house by mid-morning.
