Summer Skies

On July.

The July skies were filled with thunderclouds and beautiful sunsets with a rust orange orb hanging just over the horizon. Often, I looked up to see a cumulonimbus cloud zooming in strong winds over the Hillside field.

With the heat, we waited until later in the evening to do chores. I snapped this picture at dusk, marveling at the wide-open sky. The sheep thought it was time to move as I stood at the corner of the paddock taking the picture, and they eagerly trotted to me.

When they found I was only taking pictures, they milled about for a bit and then meandered away, back to their previous patches of grazing.

Also in July, as we drove around county roads, we found four fuzzy kittens that had just been left on the side of the road. One brave kitten waddled up to Jeff, not more than four weeks old. We gathered them up and brought them home.

They are learning how to do all the right cat things. They’re climbing up the couch to take naps, curling under the refrigerator door to bask in the warm air coming from the grate, and pouncing on each other. It’s been fun to watch.

Mia the Dog has tried to round them up to ensure they don’t get into any mischief, to no avail.

But there have been days when she sleeps a lot, and in the evening, she shows her own mischievous side:

This Week on the Farm

Mid-July is county fair season in our part of Indiana. We were excited to have Sylvanmore sheep at three local fairs!

Congratulations to Adriana and Kaden for winning Champion in their respective divisions!

And now, the Great Indiana State Fair has begun! Today is Day Three of the Fair, and over the next two weeks, we’ll have a few opportunities to attend, whether as spectators or media. Stay tuned for more fun in August!
