Rejuvenation

On lambing season.

The spring sunshine streams into the lambing pen each morning, bringing a bright start to the day.

And that bright start becomes even brighter with a new lamb.

After a break of several weeks, our Shetland ewes began lambing again about a week ago, in the middle of a storm. Spain’s ewe lamb (pictured above) was born on St. Patrick’s Day. The lamb count is now at 13, and a majority of them are ewes.

This is a nice change after previous seasons of having a majority of our lambs born being rams. These new ewe lambs will help our flock grow, rejuvenating our flock.

This Week on the Farm

Mia has begun sheepdog lessons again after her winter break. She did really well yesterday, remembering her left, right, and walk up commands.

With the spring weather comes plans for spring projects. After emerging from the winter’s snow, mud, and wind, we can see what needs repaired and what we can improve.

One project is planting fruit trees. Jeff planted wild white peach and pawpaw seeds in pots outside the barn. It’ll be fun to see when they emerge.
