Rainbow as Respite
On joy at the end of a long day.
At Golden Hour on Thursday, a double rainbow arced over the Hillside Pasture. I was about to head home, but the sight stopped me in my tracks. I leapt from the truck and pulled my phone from my pocket, nearly running into the pasture.
I'd been in the barn tending to a sick ewe, and I was exhausted from the day's work. The rainbow provided respite; it'd been a while since I'd seen one. The sheep in the pasture grazed beneath it.
The best part was what the rainbow meant: it had rained. The Christmas trees glistened. The grass gleamed.

This Week on the Farm
The ewe mentioned above is lost to us now. The same day she passed away, we picked up three new additions: Alpine does. The goats will mingle with the sheep and help us clear out brush and weeds. Then, we can more easily find honey locust trees, which have thorns that will spear boots, in the pasture and cut them down.
Even when there is death on the farm, life still teems.
