Morning Walk
On quiet before excitement.
Morning at the Indiana State Fair is a gentle sunrise silhouetting the quiet Ferris wheel, the white outline of the event's name bold along the Coliseum roof, two 40-pound Shetland ram lambs passing by one-ton Belgian stallions.
Before the show Friday, Jeff and I took the sheep for a walk around the barn. Sleepy, they had some straw stuck to their wool we'd remove before the show.
Some of the draft horse exhibitors were exercising their horses, and we said, "Good morning," as we walked by, amused by the animals' size difference when side by side. But the sheep were bold, and they didn't even flinch as hooves bigger than dinner plates clopped into the pavement.

This Week on the Farm
Results from Friday's show included Top Five in the spring ram lamb and pair of ewes class, as well as Top Four for Best Fleece. This week, we'll spend some time recuperating from the excitement and planning for the breeding season.
