Morning Frost
On a November sunrise.
Frost glazes the grass. Sun slants across the paddock the sheep had occupied until the day before. A crispness in the air makes the fields feel like the mountains.
I had walked to this corner of the pasture to see a tree that had fallen across the netting. I snap a picture of the scattered broken branches, then turn toward the sunrise.
The lighting and the shadows! Oh, they’re incredible.
Mia gallops with her nose to the ground, sniffing for voles. She pauses and straightens up, nose wriggling as she eyes the treeline. Then, she takes off, zooming around the paddock before joyfully coming up to me and bouncing around my knees. I laugh and ruffle her fur, and we walk toward the gates to start sheep checks.

This Week on the Farm
Here was the scene during that frosty morning sheep check:
Cool season grasses, which make up our pastures, grow during this time of year, so I’m eager for some rain to help that process.
