Llama and Llambs

On welcoming new flock members.

Daishin says hi to our first lamb of the season, born Jan. 30, while Mom looks on.

Last Sunday afternoon, I gave medicine to our first lamb of the season. Shortly after I picked her up, Daishin the Llama wandered over.

He is gentle with the new arrivals, taking cautious steps toward the proud mum and new flock addition, then slowly lowering his head to make inspections. When the lambs start to bounce around, Daishin steps aside so they can bounce without interruption.

Llamas and llambs make a cute combination.

This Week on the Farm

Tuesday, a ram lamb set a new record on the farm: heaviest birth weight at 14.9 pounds! The ewe lambed without assistance, which is a really good sign: a ewe that lambs unassisted, even with such a big lamb, is definitely a keeper.

Big lamb and proud mum.
