Hide-and-Seek

Two of the Three Musketeers (our Nigerian Dwarf goats) climbed in a tree one day.

They carefully tucked their heads behind a big branch or behind the trunk, saying, You can't see me!

They were playing Hide-and-Seek!

It's fun each year to see what games the animals play. In the spring, lamb kindergartens streak across the pasture, chasing the leader ‘round and ‘round. When she slows down, the lambs leap and flip and gallop in the opposite direction.

King of the Hill is popular with the goats. They jump on hay bales and firewood stacks and wrestle with each other to be the one at the top. They also like to jump on top of their shade wagon (a converted hay wagon) and survey the landscape as if they're look-outs on a ship.

And llamas will partake in staring contests, eyeing one another from across the fence.

The games are a fun addition to the farm work day.

This Week on the Farm

This view of animals gathering at the corner of their paddock while I put out new netting never gets old. They know they're about to enjoy a Banquet of Forages once I finish setting up their paddock.

Last week, we mentioned the mower was in the shop. Jeff was able to pick the mower up on Friday and cut the grass in the Christmas trees yesterday. He noted that the Shropshires grazing in the tree patches made mowing more manageable.

I watched the lambs eating around the trees yesterday. It's always cool to see what they've learned as they grow up.
