Grazing Has Begun
On fresh, tasty grass.
Stockmen are refreshed by the sight of animals grazing on spring grass. They worked through the winter to deliver hay to the flock, and now they receive respite from the cold work.
In the first round of rotational grazing, I move the animals quickly. They will just clip off the tops of the plants, then I open up the next section. Moving them quickly helps the forage grow nicely through the summer and ensures they don’t eat the grass down too far.
Each time I open up a section, the sheep, goats, and llamas gallop to the new grass, refreshed themselves.

This Week on the Farm
10-year 4-H member Aaliyah had “show Shetlands” on her bucket list! Yesterday, she picked up two of our market lambs for this summer’s exhibitions. Thank you, Aaliyah, for adding Sylvanmore sheep to your show string!
We’ll be heading to the National Shropshire Sale this week with a January ram lamb. The event is a good chance to connect with other sheep enthusiasts, and we’re looking forward to selling our own lambs for the first time!
