Fuzzy Goats

On fur ready for cold temps.

One of the fun things about livestock in winter is seeing their thick coats develop. Mocha and her mom have puffed up over the last two weeks as their fur thickens. They both look comfortable out in the cold, thanks to this fuzzy barrier that holds heat in and traps air for insulation.

Here, Mocha looks quite happy to receive her hay for food. Once the hay is picked through, some of it falls to the ground for a nice layer of bedding. I've seen Daishin the Llama leisurely kush (lie down) next to the feeder, looking content.

A row of trees provides a nice windbreak for the livestock, and one of our hay wagons gives the animals the chance to duck under some shelter if they feel the need.

Overall, it's the fuzziness that counts!

This Week on the Farm

Temperatures above freezing were rare last week. Everyone was quite happy to stay inside.

This pygmy buck has done a great job with our weeds, and he’s ready for a new pasture. He’s easygoing and fun to have around. If you know someone who has always wanted a goat for Christmas, reply to this email for more information!
