A Farmer's Guide on Taking a Break
On avoiding tree planting, and everything else...

The new Shropshires that joined the Christmas Tree Munch Bunch a week ago.
From his editor’s note in “Handcrafted,” Jeff would have you believe that I was shirking tree planting duty by attending a wool show. Springtime is busy on the farm, so there are, naturally, myriad ways to “shirk tree planting duty.”
So, other than selling fleeces at a wool show, how can one avoid planting trees?
Shear sheep
Vaccinate weaned lambs
Set up new netting for lambs and llamas
Fix netting after mischievous sheep escapes
Buy new sheep at the National Shropshire Sale
But the best way to get out of planting trees (and everything else, for that matter) is to have emergency surgery. (Jeff’s Ed. note: She is determined, I’ll give her that.)
With our final push for planting trees looming, I was rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon with severe pain (unconnected to anything on the farm). I stayed in the hospital overnight and had surgery Tuesday morning.
Surgery greatly hinders one’s abilities to bend over and kneel down. It really wipes out stamina, too.
So while I take a break from the springtime rush, Jeff continues onward with SGL Duties and the tree planting.

The Greeting Committee for the new Shropshires. The Shetland lambs gathered at the edge of their pen and watched as we arrived from the sale, baaing as the trailer passed.
Thanks for Reading!
And stay safe this week! I hope you don’t have to go to the emergency room.
