Enjoying Spring

On stopping to smell the flowers.

We’ve had beautiful and gusty spring weather this week. Daffodils bloom along the hillsides and roadways. Their vibrant colors have made for enjoyable trips to and from the farm.

Even Mia admires flowers and stops to enjoy their blooms as she patrols around the house. It’s fun to watch her as she checks out all the smells.

She has been helping with planting trees, as well. We couldn’t do it without her.

Happy Easter, and thanks for Reading!

And I hope you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead with this moment preserved in picture and prose. Consider:

This Week on the Farm

Like Jeff wrote on April 6, we are spending all the time we can planting trees. Last Sunday, we planted half of our concolor firs (with Mia’s help, of course).

The Shropshires are grazing in the Christmas trees for the second season of our Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) project. Last year, the sheep grazed in our half-acre of younger trees and couldn’t keep up with the grass during the rainy spring. This year, we’ve turned the sheep out into the more established, taller trees.

Netting set up for move-in day.

As soon as they moved in to their summer home, the sheep got right to work.
