Christmas Celebrations

On the warmth of decorations.

As a Christmas tree producer, it’s always fun to see where evergreens and their motifs show up in December.

This particular tree truck was parked at the French Lick Springs Resort, where I was fortunate to exhibit for my off-farm work at the Indiana Ag Gathering. The resort was filled with decorations, from giant gingerbread houses to reindeer and elves.

Early Saturday morning, I crunched through the snow in front of the resort, taking in the Christmas lights. The cold refreshed me, and the warmth of the lights provided a beautiful start for the morning.

This Week on the Farm

This week, we’re focused on preparing the sheep for shearing. We do this before lambing season, which will start in February, because it’s easier to keep track of the ewes’ pregnancies and swiftly identify who is ready to lamb. The newborns also benefit by reaching the udder more easily without having to sort through all that wool.

With Saturday’s shearing, we’ll have several fleeces from our Shetlands and Shropshires available for purchase. Shropshire wool will be white, while Shetland colors include white, Shaela (gray with flecks of black), and black. Let us know with a reply to this email what type of fleece you would like, and we can reserve some for you.
