Butterfly on Clover
On farming with nature.
We've done our best to avoid mowing milkweed in the tree patch, and if the winged creature in the photo is any indication, the extra effort was worth it.
Monarch butterflies were declared endangered toward the end of July. Their numbers are dwindling, and milkweed is a monarch caterpillar's home.
This one alighted on red clover, which the sheep really like eating. The butterflies help the clover; the clover helps the sheep; the sheep help us.
Farming with nature, not against it: that's what we're endeavoring to do.

Six new Shropshires have joined the farm, and two of them are bred to lamb at the end of September! We're looking forward to the new additions.
