Bird Song and Sheep
On peaceful mornings.

A walk through the pasture shortly after sunrise.
The sun shone gently on the Hillside Pasture Friday morning as I sat next to the lambs. They grazed on clover, unperturbed by my presence.
Birds sang their morning chorus, chatting about their plans for the day through melodies.
It was a peaceful way to start the day.

This Week on the Farm
Last night, Jeff took me to see The Sheep Detectives, a movie we’ve been excited about for months—the lead character is a Shetland! It was a cute film.
Heavy rain kept us out of the tree patch much of this week, and standing water deferred planting plans. The skies have cleared now, and we have 10 Turkish firs left to plant.

Newly planted Korean-balsam firs.
Soon, we will complete our grant for grazing Shropshires in Christmas trees. We plan to create a guidebook to help other Christmas tree producers use sheep to keep the weeds down.
Farm Shop
Light in Winter is a story and art series we created to share our adventures on the farm. Our Light in Winter artist, Lydia, has created a sticker shop, which includes art from the series. Here are links for a llama sticker or a Gandalf the Ram sticker for your notebook or water bottle!
