Above the Clouds
On being content with home.
I often write about clouds and beautiful sunsets from the ground. This week, I had the chance to see the sunset from above the clouds.
Thursday, I flew to Iowa for a work trip. On the way back Friday afternoon, the sun began sinking beneath the horizon, creating a band of deep orange along the curve of the Earth. The clouds turned cotton candy blue.
Gazing in awe at the sight, I thought of the quote I often ponder when aircraft cross the farm’s airspace:
“A child on a farm sees a plane fly overhead and dreams of a faraway place. A traveler on the plane sees the farmhouse—and dreams of home.”
As I feed sheep, plant trees, or put up fence, I sometimes wonder where the planes are going. Jeff looks at his flight tracker app, which tells him which airport the planes took off from and where the planes are going. Sometimes, I think, I’d like to go there!
At other times, I’m content to just watch the jet shoot across the sky. The farm is a good place to be.
Thanks for Reading!
And I hope you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead with this moment preserved in picture and prose. Consider:

This Week on the Farm
Last Sunday and Monday, we received around 8 inches of snow. It was lovely being inside and watching the birds hopping around on the snowy juniper tree next to our house. Three more inches fell Friday afternoon.
Yesterday, Mia zoomed across the hills, pouncing in the snow, then scooping it into her mouth for refreshment. She galloped across the pasture, racing her shadow.
The SGL have been playing in the snow, too:

Even if you’re snowed in, our Etsy shop is always open! I anticipate adding some new fleeces when we shear before lambing, so follow our shop to keep up with the latest updates.
