The 1,000th Tree

On achievements.

Pictured here is the 1,000th Sylvanmore Christmas tree, a Canaan fir.

We have at last finished planting this year. Yesterday, we walked through the firs and pines to check on them, reflecting on our first year's experience. We planted half of the trees in the spring (in extremely wet weather) and half of the trees in the fall (in abnormally dry conditions).

Next year, we plan to only plant in the fall; spring was too hectic as we were working not only between rains, but between new lambs and calves arriving, as well.

As for the 1,000th tree itself, it will become dormant and rest for the winter, accompanied by the maple leaf at its base.

This Week on the Farm

We hardly know what to do now that the trees are all planted!

Just kidding....on our walk, we mentally made lists of trees that need cut down, sheep pens that need made, fences that need cleared of brush....so preparations for winter continue.
