Occupation
On purposeful work.
A visitor to an exhibition or sale sees an animal for only a few minutes in the show or sale ring. But back in the barn, there’s more preparation and dedication behind the scenes.
In this photo, I’m removing some last minute wool stains (sheep are hand-wash only) before going up to the auction block to sell this ram.
Like in any occupation—entertainment, construction, motherhood (Happy Mother’s Day!)—it’s the behind-the-scenes work that makes the magic happen.

This Week on the Farm
It’s been a week for thinking about occupation. On Thursday, a story I was interviewed and photographed for came out in the Indianapolis Star. The headline came from the journalist’s interview with me. It was a true honor to be recognized in this way.
