A Concolor Fir

On nutrient distribution.

Across the country, mature Canaan firs, blue spruces, Eastern white pines, and many more Christmas trees are being taken home for the holiday festivities.

In our little corner of the world, this young concolor fir received its first dose of fertilizer Saturday. We’ve had a bit of rain recently, which takes the edge off the extremely dry weather, and that’ll help the fertilizer soak into the ground.

The tree has been dormant for a couple of months, and these nutrients will help it spring awake in April.

And in six or seven years, this concolor fir will be ready to celebrate the holiday season, too!

This Week on the Farm

Things have been quiet over the last week, and we hope that continues. We’ll keep distributing fertilizer on the Christmas trees and straighten them as needed. Sometimes, the trees need help to stand up straight, as they may have bent during the growing season. Animals also could have bumped the trees. Jeff ties a bamboo stake around the trunk to help the tree grow nice and straight.
