It's a Big World Out There

On venturing forth.

It was a big week for our young lambs: on Monday, they moved from the barn to the pasture, and they’ve been playing Lamb Games in the Great Outdoors.

When we first brought the sheep outside, the mums fully enjoyed being out on spring grass while their offspring weren’t so sure about this new environment. Chaos ensued as the lambs looked for their family groups (as seen in the video below).

But soon, the lambs met new friends. The yearling and two-year-old Shetland ewes live next door, so the lambs went up to talk to their neighbors.

Little #11 looks like he’s ready for the next adventure, which for him will be learning how to graze rotationally. The grass is starting to grow, and soon, we’ll be moving the netting to give the sheep new spaces every few days.

Thanks for Reading!

And I hope you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead with this moment preserved in picture and prose. Consider:

This Week on the Farm

The llama has moved in with the lambs to keep a sharp eye on them.

Friday, Jeff picked up new hay feeders. Here, I’m attaching hay nets to the feeders to keep more hay in the top and less hay from falling to the bottom tray. The sheep decided to “help.”

We have two more ewes to lamb! And we’re looking forward to meeting our pygmy doe’s kids, as well. 🙂

Farm Shop

4-H season is underway, and here’s one of our crossbred lambs available. You can let us know through replying to this email or our Facebook or Instagram pages if you’d like to visit the farm for a look at the lambs!
